ON ST. JOHN THE HERMIT, OF RUSELLO IN ABRUZZO OF ITALY,

[Commentary]

John the hermit of Rusello in Abruzzo of Italy (St.)

J. P.

Ferrari in the *Catalogue of the Saints* *of Italy* thus praises him at this day: *John the hermit* *of Rusello, a village of Hither Abruzzo,* *of the diocese of Trivento, among whom* *he is reported to have led a solitary life* *and to have shone with miracles, has veneration* *on this day: whose body is kept there.* But in the *Catalogue of the Saints who are not in* *the Roman Martyrology* he thus announces him again: *At Rusello* *in Abruzzo, of St. John the hermit.* But in the notes he confirms the matter from his *Ms. Life, which is kept in the church of Rusello, a village of Abruzzo,* *of the diocese of Trivento, where he rests and* *has veneration.* Castellan in his universal Martyrology also relates him in this manner: *In the diocese of Trivento, on the borders of Abruzzo* *and of the County of Molise, St. John of Rusello,* *a solitary.* I have sought in vain among us a copy of the Life mentioned above by Ferrari: yet upon the credit of that same hagiologist asserting that this Hermit is honored, I have thought a place should be given him in our Work among the other heavenly ones of the present day, even though from elsewhere he is utterly unknown to me.
